25 years ago Poetry SlamMN! was born in  the back room at Kieran's Irish Pub. Poetry Slam is the art of competitive poetry. From the start of this monthly show sprung up Open Mics, then 2 slams a month. 
In 2006, Allison Broeren took over as the Co-Slammaster of Poetry SlamMN! in the upcoming years she started growing more shows including Word Ninja Open Mic, The Encyclopedia  Show, and  Story SlamMN!  In 2012 Word Sprout was grown as an umbrella org to home a bunch of amazing Live Literature. While our offerings have changed through the years, at time hosting 9 monthly events, our commitment to open stages, growing words through poetry, story, spoken word and uncensored artist expression remains. 

In 2019 Word Sprout is excited to move to its new homes in  Northeast Minneapolis.  Strike Theater.
