Allison Broeren is the founder and head word grower at Word Sprout. She began her performance career in the realm of speech/forensics competing all the way through college, and then coaching at Benilde-St. Margaret's and Edina High school. In 2006 she took over Poetry SlamMN! and is a founding member of the Rockstar Storytellers.
Since then she has fallen in love with not only performing, but producing and hosting too! Allison has organized between 50-70 shows a year since 2006. She was named an artist to watch by the 2010 City Pages. The Erotica Slam was named Best Spoken Word Event 2011 by the City Pages and her Slam events were named the Best of Performance by the 2013 Star Tribune. She was in charge of running the Women of the World Poetry Slam 2013 and was the Hospitality Coordinator for the National Poetry Slam 2010. The National Poetry Slam team has made semi-finals the last three years and placed as high as 5th in the Nation.
Allison has taught workshops locally and nationally for people ranging from young teens to college professors. She teaches slam workshops, storytelling, writing and performing, telling your story in the classroom for teachers, and consults with small businesses on how to tell the right story. Allison also holds her Masters in Business Administration and appreciates helping artists combine their talents with business skills so they can really achieve their dreams.
She is the founder of Word Ninjas Open Mic, Speak Easy Twin Cities, the co-founder of Encyclopedia Show Minneapolis, the founder of the Gauntlet and other series. Allison has performed for audiences big and small ranging from being on KFAI Radio, Minnesota Public Radio, The MN Book Awards, MN Fringe Festival, The Moth Tour de Fat Mainstage, NARAL fundraisers, political fundraisers, local block parties, and coffee tables all through the land.
